There are basic laws of health that if incorporated into everyday lifestyle choices will support your body's immune system response to support your body to stay healthy even during times when there are so many threats of illness going around.
But even the most health-conscious individuals aren't totally immune to seasonal threats when they get a little lazy in their daily routine of eating right, exercising, resting & managing stress and reducing toxic load. This was the reminder that came to David recently in the form of the "seasonal crud". You know.... that tickle in your throat... the desire to just lay in bed.... and the cough that disrupts the tranquility of the night and soon takes over almost every waking moment, too! The statement when he said, "I'm not really feeling that great" took us both by surprise, because it was something he hadn't said in about 5 years!
So, we revisited the past several days before David started feeling under the weather and discovered that it was the compound effect of a few unhealthy choices that lead him to being more susceptible to the germs in the air. David had just spent a week in the RV in Jackson, TN. He was there working with many members of our dōTERRA team as well as meeting with people wanting to learn more about taking care of their families naturally. During that week he had meetings starting each day no later than 9:00am and not finishing at night with Zoom meetings until about 1:00am, so what little sleep he received did not equate to the full amount recommended to rest and repair his body. Although our RV is set up to accommodate cooking healthy meals, David's scheduled meetings often overlapped meal time so he either didn't eat, or ate less than healthy options on the run. And exercise was almost non-existant that week. And one of his final meetings was with someone who was already sick.
It's amazing how quickly poor choices can take a toll on your body to suppress the immune system's ability to do what's necessary to fight off illness! So, the final straw was when he decided to leave the RV in Jackson (because he was returning in a few days) and ride the motorcycle back home to Chattanooga (about a 4 hour ride). It was a great idea from my perspective because when he planned to leave it was sunny and about 70 degrees here in Chattanooga (in January!), but what we didn't plan for was the unfortunate series of events that delayed his departure until much later that evening when it was only about 45 degrees and dropping. If you've ever ridden a motorcycle about 75-80 mph, you know than anything below 70 degrees is quite chilly, so he arrived home a little "frozen" after 4 hours!
